History of Natal:
Natal was constructed on the
right bank of river called Potenji, the place where the river run into the
Atlantic; the soil of Natal is very sandy, with mounds and havens protected by ridges

On 25th of December, 1599, a minor village was established one mile away from the fortress; and this village was entitled as “Natal”. Actually “Natal” is a Portuguese name used for Christmas. The city then settled gradually; in a different way from Pernambuco.

Natal is the beautiful capital
of “Rio-Grande-do-Norte” state. Geographically Natal is the bordering point of
Brazil to Europe, America and Africa. Natal is located at “5°46′S 35°12′W /

Natal is
also known as the city of Sun and it is also called The City of the Dunes. It is situated
